This course will cover the basic procedures for conducting Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) Testing with their laboratory. We will discuss:
- Sample collection, shipment, and documentation
- Shipment and documentation for associated chemistry samples
- Interpretation of WET and chemistry results
- Reporting requirements for NPDES compliance
- Response to non-compliant results
Class includes a tour of the laboratory during a WET test, and participants can observe ongoing Brook Trout, Water Flea, and Sea Urchin tests.
We will also cover recommended QA/QC procedures for in-house wastewater labs performing BOD, TSS, SS, pH, total residual chlorine, and bacteria testing. The annual DMR-QA proficiency testing program with helpful tips for the most commonly encountered problems and a summary of the 2024 results from participating facilities in Maine will also be discussed.

Presented by JETCC. Maine JETCC is a program managed by NEIWPCC through a contract with Maine DEP.

Cancellations: Seven days’ notice is required IN WRITING (mailed, faxed, or emailed to maine@neiwpcc.org) for you to cancel at no cost. Cancellations received after this time will be charged $25 for programs under $100 and $50 for programs over $100. Registrants who do not cancel or who fail to show are responsible for full payment.
