This course will provide instruction on Bioaugmentation and process simulation, two new tools that operators can add to their toolkits for addressing the broad range of challenges that they are required to deal with.

The Bioaugmentation module will provide an overview of how wastewater operators can utilize targeted microbes to address challenges in the wastewater treatment process such as poor settling, filamentous or viscous bulking, toxic upsets and other challenges.

The process modeling portion of the course will introduce operators to the use of simulation tools that provide a virtual reality space that replicates plant operations and allows operators to undertake training on plant operations and perform risk free troubleshooting of their plant operations and test out solutions before implementing them on the full-scale plant. This will be a hands-on class and attendees will be provided access to the SimuWorks simulation platform used in the annual Water Environment Federation (WEF) Operations Challenge.
