Description
Part II of Biological Nutrient Removal continues the review of nitrification and presents a review of denitrification and biological phosphorus removal. Part II of BNR also provides a review of the bacteria (fermentative and Poly-P) that perform biological phosphorus removal (enhanced biological phosphorus removal [EBPR]) and the operational conditions that favor their activity, growth and reproduction. We will also addresses the two reactors, the upstream anaerobic fermentative and downstream aerobic, that are required for biological phosphorus removal. In addition, an introduction to chemical removal of phosphorus, specifically orthophosphate is provided.
